Description
Three computer based interactive exercises for consolidating and testing knowledge of common vegetables: potato, tomato, cucumber, cabbage, cauliflower, green beans, peas, pepper, carrot, onion, turnip, mushroom, leek,aubergine,broccoli.
To access the exercises down load the zip file and decompress it into a folder. Access the folder and run any one of the html files: veg_fc , veg_mch or veg_mch1.
The first opens up a memory consolidation exercise where images of the items are shown and the user should recall the name of the item in question. By clicking on the NEXT button he / she can confirm his / her answer. Pressing the DELETE button eliminates that item. This should be done when the item has been recalled properly. The user should repeat this process by clicking on the next button until all the items have been recalled (learnt) and deleted. Refreshing the page will restart the exercise in a random order.
The second exercise is drag and drop. Random images are displayed on the left and the corresponding labels on the right. The user should click and drag the label to its item and release it over the image chosen. Clicking on the CHECK button activates feedback.
The third exercise is multiple choice. Random items are shown with a drop down menu associated to each. The user should identify the correct label in the menu.

also provided are the hotpotato editing files, should any changes be required. To open and edit these files please download the hotpotaoes editing programs which are available free to download on the internet. Instructions on their use are also available at the same source.
Suggested Procedure
For use in the classroom, the exercises can be projected onto the board and individual student can be selected to demonstrate their use. Alternatively, they can be used for team competition in the classroom.
They can also be used as self-access exercises if placed on computers students have access to ,e.g. in the school library.
